Egg Harbor Historical Society’s “Page-a-Day to Keep the Doctor Away” Program
Kress Pavilion is lucky to be the home to the Egg Harbor Historical Society. In lieu of our in-person History Hour Program, the group has decided to share their forthcoming book, “The Leathem D. Smith Shipyard Company; WWII and Sturgeon Bay.”
The book commemorates the 75th anniversary of WWII and includes stories from Door County during the war. When asked for it’s inspiration, the Historical Society’s Vice President, Giz Herbst says, “It was in 1943, that I was born into a shipbuilding family in Sturgeon Bay, right dab in the middle of the war so my interest was drawn to this intriguing time and place. My interest was also perked by the fact that this year is the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. So I thought, why not look at a period in Door County history when a national Emergency Defense Production Act was set in motion and our fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts and grandparents went to work to help save the world.”
We will include links to the pages here, and on our facebook, sign up for the Egg Harbor Historical Society’s E-newsletter to receive this in your inbox daily. Visit their website here:eggharborwi.com
