The Village is excited to announce that it will offer compost pick up once again starting this month! The program kicked off in 2019 when the Village expanded its yard waste compost program to include food waste. With the help of the DNR and our Compost University-trained Public Works team, a pilot program was launched in conjunction with Main Street Market and select businesses.
With our Public Works team at the lead, the Village produced 25 cubic yards of compost in 2021 alone. The finished product is screened and offered for free to Village businesses and residents.
The village will be picking up compost on Wednesdays with the help of volunteers through the Door Community Compost Initiative.
Participants receive 5-gallon collection pails to collect pre-consumer food scraps (fruits and veggies- no dairy or meat). Each week, our team will pick up your buckets and drop off clean ones. Pick up is Wednesdays at 10 am. If you would like we can do a staff training and create signage.
Cost is free with a suggested $50 donation to help pay for buckets.
The program runs May 18- Oct. 26
